The Greenwood Fire Department (GFD) consists of seventy-three (73) full-time employees and sixteen (16) part-time employees. GFD protects a 25-square-mile response area that has a permanent resident population of more than 50,000.Greenwood has a daily visitor population of over 50,000 people due to the high retail occupancy concentration of the city, including Indiana’s second largest enclosed shopping mall. GFD provides fire, explosion, rescue, EMS and hazardous material response for the jurisdiction and assists regularly with five (5) primary mutual aid fire departments. It is the mission of the Greenwood Fire Department – through fire suppression, emergency medical services, special operations, disaster preparedness, fire prevention, and community education – to preserve the life and property of all who live in and visit the City of Greenwood.
