Project Excel is a is a 501 (c ) (3)funded by the Town of Huntington Youth Bureau, the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, the Suffolk County Youth Bureau, various grants, fundraisers and private donations. Project Excel seeks to provide all youth in the Town of Huntington with enrichment programs in the areas of the Arts, Life skill, Education and Employment. All programs are free of charge.

The Mothers Club of Wheatley Heights was organized in 1980 as the result of the closing of the Taukomas Elementary School. Taukomas was a neighborhood school which was closed because of a disproportionate minority population (23%) and declining enrollment in the Half Hollow Hills School District.
