In response to the California wildfires that blew through Sonoma Valley and nearby towns, BAPS Charities volunteers contributed $10,000 to the Sonoma Valley Fire & Rescue Authority (SVFRA) and presented the check at their January Board meeting. BAPS Charities’ contribution will be used toward firefighter training and supplies for volunteers in preparation for the future.
The SVFRA Board President Tom Deely explained that volunteer firefighters spent 12 days straight responding to the fire, away from their families, to ensure that homes were protected and the fire could be contained. BAPS Charities volunteers were given an opportunity to better understand the role of volunteer firefighters and how the team was able to mobilize quickly. During times of natural disasters, fire departments rely on trained volunteers to join them in response efforts.
