Cancer is a major public health problem worldwide. It is the second leading cause of death in the United States and Canada’s leading cause of death. Cancer prevention is now one of the most important, achievable, and potentially rewarding global public health challenges. Research shows that diet, physical inactivity, and obesity are related to up to 30–35% of cancer deaths.
To help raise awareness on the topic of cancer, BAPS Charities organized a health awareness lecture in Robbinsville, New Jersey on August 27, 2022.
The health awareness lecture, presented by Neel J. Gandhi MD, focused on preventive cancer care, early signs of cancer, and the importance of early detection. Additionally, the speaker emphasized the importance of regular screening for specific cancers depending on age and gender. Topics also included minimizing cancer risk factors by maintaining a healthy diet, physically exercising, quitting tobacco and alcohol, and protecting skin from the sun. Finally, the speaker covered the essential steps to take if and when someone is diagnosed with cancer.
