On August 3, 2024, BAPS Charities hosted its annual “In the Joy of Others: Walk-Run” in Montgomery, AL, benefiting two important causes: The Firefighter Cancer Support Network for Alabama and Reach Out and Read Alabama. The event brought together nearly 150 community members, including State District 83 House Representative Jeremy Gray, U.S. Congressional District 2 candidate Caroleene Dobson, and members of Montgomery Fire and Rescue, led by Chief Cooper. Notable participants also included Curtis Dunn from the Firefighter Cancer Support Network and Michelle Jackson, Executive assistant to the Speaker Pro Tempore of the Alabama House of Representatives.
The walk united participants of all ages, from youth to seniors, in support of these organizations’ missions to provide resources for firefighters battling cancer and to improve literacy among children through a love of reading.
Curtis Dunn expressed his gratitude, stating, “The impact this charity makes is immense, and I deeply appreciate events like this that support our noble cause of helping firefighters with cancer.”
Michelle Jackson also reflected on the event, saying, “Today was wonderful! Thank you so much for having me. I really enjoyed the community and the walk. I’m looking forward to participating in the next one with you all.”
The event not only promoted a healthier lifestyle but also highlighted the powerful effect of collective efforts in addressing local needs and challenges.
