Hurricane Ian was one of the deadliest hurricanes to strike the state of Florida since 1935. It caused widespread damage in the southeast United States. Much of the damage was from flooding brought about by a storm surge of 10–15 ft. The cities of Fort Myers Beach and Naples were particularly hard hit. Millions were left without power in the storm’s wake, and numerous inhabitants were forced to take refuge on their roofs.
To support the relief efforts, on October 27, 2022, BAPS Charities volunteers met with Team Rubicon representatives in Los Angeles to deliver a $15,000 check for Hurricane Ian relief. Team Rubicon is a veteran-led humanitarian organization that serves global communities before, during, and after disasters and crises. By pairing the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders, medical professionals, and technology solutions, Team Rubicon aims to provide the greatest service and impact possible. Team Rubicon CEO, Art delaCruz, said, “We want to send a special thank BAPS Charities because your gift powers us to say yes after disaster strikes, and the other thing it allows us to do is to build these teams ahead of the storms.” BAPS Charities is committed to helping those suffering from major disasters and believes everyone has a role to play in helping others.
