The escalating costs of essentials such as food, fuel, accommodation, and transportation have placed a significant burden on many individuals and families. This has particularly hit the unhoused community on Skid Row in the Southern California area. Regrettably, many find themselves in the distressing situation of having insufficient funds to provide for even the most basic necessities — food and hygiene products.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, BAPS Charities volunteers in Los Angeles channeled their spirit of service and organized a food and care kit drive.
Serving the residents of Skid Row in Downtown Los Angeles, BAPS Charities donated 500 hygiene care kits with travel size shampoo, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, hand warmers, hydration powder, nail clippers and wipes to The Midnight Mission.
Founded in 1914, The Midnight Mission offers paths to self-sufficiency to men, women and children who have lost direction. Their emergency services and 12-step recovery, family living, job training, education and workforce development programs offer a compassionate bridge to achieve and maintain healthy, productive lives. Their mission is to make available the necessities of life and offer a bridge to self-sufficiency for people experiencing homelessness.
“We help thousands of people a day,” shared Darrell Smith, Gift In Kind Coordinator at The Midnight Mission. “They come to us for showers, clothing, and meals three times a day. We thank organizations like yours for coming out and donating and getting into this fight with us to support our communities’ most vulnerable residents.”
BAPS Charities continues to mobilize to serve our communities’ most vulnerable residents and remains committed to serving society and communities in diverse areas of support to include medical, environmental, community, educational, and humanitarian services.
