On July 8, 2024, Hurricane Beryl struck the Texas coast as a Category 1 storm, bringing with it wind gusts up to 90 mph and substantial rainfall. The hurricane inflicted severe damage across the region, resulting in widespread power outages in Houston and leaving millions without electricity.
In response, officials from Houston, Harris County, Fort Bend County, Galveston, and Montgomery County have been diligently coordinating recovery efforts. During this critical period, BAPS Charities has played a vital role in providing support to those impacted by the storm.
In Fort Bend County, BAPS Charities volunteers recognized the immediate need for hot meals and responded by delivering freshly prepared pizzas to local emergency response centers. This gesture offered comfort and nourishment to many frontline workers managing the disaster relief efforts. Additionally, the volunteers extended their support to the Stafford Police Department, acknowledging their role in maintaining safety amid the city’s widespread power outages by providing them with hot meals.
Furthermore, BAPS Charities also distributed meals consisting of rice, lentils, rotis, and pasta to over 600 individuals whose homes were damaged, rendering them unable to cook. These meals were provided during both lunch and dinner times.
