In The Joy of Others: Walk-Run 2024 in Hartford, CT

On June 2, 2024, BAPS Charities hosted its annual “In the Joy of Others: Walk-Run” in Rocky Hill CT, to support Newington Volunteer Fire Department, Newington Police Department as well as the Rocky Hill Volunteer Fire Department. The Walk brought together local community members to take steps together and engage in a form of selfless service to support our local servicemen.

This year, nearly 400 community members, including State Senator Matt Lesser, State Representative Kerry Woods, and the Mayor of Rocky Hill Lisa Marotta, joined the effort to support Rocky Hill Volunteer Fire Department, Newington Volunteer Fire Department, and Newington Police Department and their mission to protect the community. The event showcased a broad spectrum of participation, from youth to seniors, united for a common cause.

Chief Jeffrey Trommer of the Newington Volunteer Fire Department reflected on the event’s significance, saying, “BAPS has been a great partner with a Newington fire department since 2007. With the donations that you give us to our organization, we are able to buy tools and equipment for the safety of our firefighters, and we greatly appreciate it .”

Chief Christopher Perry of the Newington Police Department expressed, “The thing that is impressive is the outpouring of internal support that BAPS Charities gets from their volunteers that come out. Everybody is happy, very mission-oriented.”

Chief Michael Garrahy of Rocky Hill Volunteer Fire Department appreciated the support provided by BAPS Charities by quoting, “This walk comes at the perfect time. We are in the middle of a recruiting drive. We are going to use these funds to help with an open house and other recruiting events to bring people into our organization.”

The event not only provided an opportunity for participants to engage in living a healthier lifestyle but also served as a reminder of the profound impact collective efforts can have in addressing local needs and challenges.
