Did you know –one in three women with high blood pressure goes undiagnosed? High blood pressure, or hypertension, is the most significant risk factor for stroke, heart disease, and kidney disease in women. Many factors contribute to hypertension; however, high levels of sodium intake is a leading cause in the prevalence of hypertension across demographics. Despite the statistics, hypertension continues to remain a silent killer among women.
To help raise awareness regarding the effects of high blood pressure and how to counter it with lifestyle changes, BAPS Charities organized a health awareness lecture in Greenville, SC on December 29, 2019.
The health awareness lecture, presented by Dr. Tanvi Parikh, focused on understanding the importance of hypertension awareness, early monitoring, and its potential effect on one’s health. Signs and symptoms of uncontrolled high blood pressure were also explored with the audience. The audience learned of changes they can make to their daily lives and routine to prevent or delay the onset of hypertension. The lecture focused on the effects of sodium on hypertension, sources of sodium in the diet, and ways to limit consumption to prevent or lower high blood pressure.
