Food insecurity remains a significant challenge for millions of households in the United States. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), 13.5% of American households—approximately 18 million—experienced food insecurity in 2023, reflecting an increase from 12.8% in 2022. The issue is particularly pronounced among children, with USDA data indicating that nearly 14 million children lived in food-insecure households last year. Food insecurity, as defined by the USDA, refers to the inability to consistently access sufficient, affordable, and nutritious food, posing serious implications for the health and well-being of affected families.
To address this growing concern, BAPS Charities held its annual food drive in Edison, NJ, during November and December of 2024. BAPS Charities donated over 750 lbs of non-perishable food items to Middlesex College and Hands of Hope. This contribution, which included canned goods, pasta, beans, and other staples, is part of BAPS Charities’ ongoing effort to support communities in need and promote social welfare. The donation aims to assist families and individuals facing food insecurity by providing essential resources for their nutritional needs. Through this collaboration, BAPS Charities continues to make a positive impact, embodying its motto, “In the joy of others lies our own,” by helping those less fortunate and strengthening communities through collective care and compassion.
Dr. Mark McCormick, President of Middlesex College, was thankful to the volunteers of BAPS Charities and noted the many years of friendship and cooperation between BAPS Charities and Middlesex College.
This initiative was part of a larger effort by BAPS Charities, which conducted food drives across North America to assist local families and individuals during the holiday season.
