Between July and September 2024, BAPS Charities organized a school supply drive to support Maryland students by ensuring they had the tools needed for a successful school year. Over the course of two months, volunteers from BAPS Charities and local community members donated more than 700 school supplies, including pens, pencils, binders, highlighters, notebooks, backpacks, and lunch boxes.
The supplies were distributed to two local organizations. At Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Beltsville, Mayor Keith Sydnor of Laurel and the school’s Community Coordinator, Ms. Liticia Hubbard, joined BAPS Charities volunteers to receive the donations. Additionally, supplies were given to the Montgomery County Public Schools Give BACKpacks program, where volunteers were accompanied by Elaine Chang, Director of the Department of Partnerships; Davida Gurstelle, Business and Community Partnerships Coordinator; Aman Shergill, member of the Governor’s Commission on South Asian American Affairs; and Maryland Delegate Lily Qi.
Both organizations sincerely appreciated the donations, which will support students throughout the academic year by providing essential supplies.
“I commend BAPS Charities for its exemplary work serving our local community and building cultural bridges. Its school supply drives are a great way to help our students focus on learning regardless of their family situation or which neighborhood they live in,” said Delegate Qi.
BAPS Charities remains committed to fostering education and supporting local communities, embodying the spirit of service.
