Influenza (“flu”) is a contagious disease, caused by the influenza virus, which can be spread by coughing, sneezing, or nasal secretions. CDC estimates that influenza was associated with more than 35.5 million illnesses, more than 16.5 million medical visits, 490,600 hospitalizations, and 34,200 deaths during the 2018–2019 influenza season. Complicating the issue this year is that many of the symptoms of influenza are like COVID-19 and can remain asymptomatic for a while. To mitigate this deadly confluence, BAPS Charities launched an immunization campaign, while maintaining public safety and the use of PPE, and strict social distancing policy.
BAPS Charities organized a Flu Vaccine drive was organized in Washington, DC on October 3, 2020, benefiting 124 participants.
