The EPA estimates that 75% of the American waste stream is recyclable, but only about 30% of it is actually recycled. Small changes in our lifestyle can have a lasting impact for the future. The state of our environment is quickly becoming a widely discussed topic penetrating many realms beyond just traditional science. Robert Swan, the first person to walk both poles of the earth, famously stated, “The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.” Climate change affects us today and will continue to affect our future generations.
Recognizing this important topic, on March 13, 2016, BAPS Charities hosted an awareness lecture in Beltsville, Maryland to discuss the impact global warming has had on the environment. Simple ideas that are easily implementable were also discussed. The audience left more knowledgeable about the state of the environment and rejuvenated to make small changes in their daily lives to help in any small way to save the environment. Mayur Thaker presented the lecture.
