The Friends of the Irving Public Library, a 501c3 organization, provides support for a number of library programs, including the Summer Reading Challenge. The Summer Reading Challenge provides educational programs designed to bring students into the library and incentives for reading. The Friends of the Irving Public Library provides funds needed to pay performers as well as purchase the incentives. The theme of the 2017 Summer Reading Challenge is “Build a Better World”.
