According to the American Thyroid Association, approximately twelve percent, or 20 million Americans have some form of Thyroid disease. However, nearly 60% of those affected are unaware of their own condition. The thyroid is an endocrine gland responsible for the production of hormones, which regulate the metabolic rate of many of the body’s functions. Diseases related to the thyroid include the more common hypo- and hyperthyroidism, thyroiditis and in more severe cases, thyroid cancer.
On November 22, 2015, BAPS Charities hosted a Health Awareness Lecture in Dallas, TX providing participants with an overview of the diseases faced with the thyroid gland. More so, the lecture focused on providing awareness of how individuals can detect symptoms and seek medical treatment as early as possible. Dr. Vipulbhai Patel presented the lecture.
