In the 1970s, the U.S. Dietary Goals advised Americans to cut back on fat and eat more carbs to lower the risk of heart disease, spawning an entire “fat-free” movement. Since then, heart disease rates have actually increased as food manufacturers replaced fats with sugars. More recent studies now prevail showing that not all fats are bad and maintaining a balance of good fat and cholesterol levels can help fight heart disease as well as other chronic illnesses.
In order to highlight the facts about cholesterol and fats, BAPS Charities organized a Health Awareness Lecture in Clifton, NJ on February 11, 2018. Dr. Hemant Patel spoke to the audience about high cholesterol, cholesterol levels, different types of fats in the diet, and food that can help reduce cholesterol.
