On May 04, 2024, BAPS Charities hosted its annual “In the Joy of Others: Walk-Run” in Matthews, NC, at Stumptown Park to support Matthews Free Medical Clinic (MFMC) and the City of Matthews Police Department. The Walk brought together local community members to take steps together and engage in a form of selfless service to raise awareness for Matthews Free Medical Clinic, which provides free, quality health care to low-income, uninsured families and individuals, and for Matthews Police Department that demonstrates knowledge, courage, and integrity while building partnership necessary to enhance the safety of our community.
This year, nearly 330 community members, including Mayor of Matthews John F. Higdon, Operational Services Bureau Captain David McGuirt, and Executive Director of MFMC Amy Car, Executive Director of Matthews Free Medical Clinic, joined the effort to support MFMC and the City of Matthews Police Department. The event showcased a broad spectrum of participation, from youth to seniors, united for a common cause.
Amy Carr of Matthews Free Medical Clinic reflected on the event’s significance, saying, “I cannot say enough about the partnership that you provide to us and all of the support over the years. Today is a testament to your dedication to giving back to the community by the number of people that have shown up to participate in this weather. Your contribution will help people that would otherwise go without care receive the healthcare they desperately need.”
The event not only provided an opportunity for participants to engage in living a healthier lifestyle but also served as a reminder of the profound impact collective efforts can have in addressing local needs and challenges.
