As the United States copes with COVID-19, school closures have resulted in a transition to online education. For economically disadvantaged families, lack of access to technology has become a major concern in continuing education across the country. In an effort to support impacted students in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, BAPS Charities donated $5000 to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ CMS Foundation.
On April 24, 2020, BAPS Charities volunteers were greeted by Ashelyn James, Foundation Manager and Sonja Gantt, Executive Director, along with other staff members Upon receiving the donated funds, Ms. Ashelyn James shared, ”Our goal is to ensure students continue to have access to learning while schools are closed. We want to thank BAPS Charities for their support and generosity.” The funds will be used to provide laptops and wi-fi hotspots to enable virtual learning for underprivileged students.
Volunteers at BAPS Charities chapters across the world continue to evaluate situations to effectively provide support by donating funds, food, and protective equipment to first responders and medical professionals.
