BAPS Charities, South London, collected winter clothing and food for the homeless in December 2019, as part of an on-going commitment to serve the needy in the local community.
A variety of warm pieces of clothing – including jumpers, jackets and trousers – as well as a large collection of tinned food was deposited at the Beddington Conference Centre in Croydon, South London.
More than 300 individual garments were collected and distributed to Crisis Skylight Croydon. Crisis is the national charity for homeless people committed to ending homelessness. In addition, 300 cans of food were delivered to Croydon Foodbank and 350 cans of food distributed to Croydon Nightwatch, an organisation that has been caring for homeless people in Croydon since 1976.
Volunteers of all ages joined together to contribute to this noble cause, including Janisha Patel, who shared, “I use multiple layers of clothing to keep warm during the winter. This compelled me to reflect upon the plight of those who struggle in this weather without a roof over their heads.”
Cindee Low, a volunteer at Croydon Nightwatch, added, “I am very grateful to BAPS Charities for its generous donation which will help feed many homeless people in Croydon.”
