BAPS Charities continued its engagement with youths during a national indoor cricket tournament held on Saturday 15 November 2014 at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, London.
Ten teams from various cities around the UK participated in the event with the prime objective of promoting health and well-being alongside youth integration.
The tournament began with high-quality matches in the group stages. The top two teams in each of the four groups (Finchley A, East London, Leicester, and West London) qualified for the main competition.
The third- and fourth-placed teams of each group were given an opportunity to participate in a separate tournament, in which Brent defeated Harrow A and South East London comfortably overcame Finchley B.
In the final of this competition, a competitive total of 65 from South East London was not enough to prevent Brent from winning the Narayanswarupdas Trophy. Inspired batting from their captain Mayur Patel and the final pair of Vandan Patel and Mukund Patel, who hit two maximums from the final two balls, helped their team reach their target.
In the Pramukh Cup main tournament, Nikul Depala and Vandan Patel helped Finchley A move past West London to reach the final. Explosive batting from Mohit Patel proved the difference in the other semi-final as East London defeated Leicester.
East London batted first in the final and Mohit Patel was influential once again as he helped his team to battle against the disciplined Finchley bowling to post a total of 50. After the loss of early wickets in their reply, Nikul Patel and Vandan Patel once again posted a sound partnership to clinch victory for Finchley.
This ever-popular event brought tremendous energy and enthusiasm amongst youths and promoted a wholesome environment of camaraderie, fun and exercise.
Exceptional individual performances were also rewarded, as follows:
Best Batsman: Nikul Depala (Finchley)
Best Bowler: Vatsal Patel (West London)
Best All-Rounder: Hersh Patel (West London)
