BAPS Charities organised a national netball tournament for children, the Premvati Cup, on Saturday 11 July 2015 at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir and The Swaminarayan School in London.
Participants from across the country arrived in the morning, holding aloft team banners from their respective towns and cities in celebration.
Following a warm-up exercise, the enthusiastic young girls, organised into three age groups (6-8 years, 9-11 years and 12-14 years), began their first-round matches amid energetic cheering from parents and supporters from the side lines.
After lunch, games progressed to the semi-finals and finals. The tense matches provided plenty of excitement as teams battled to win the Premvati Cup trophy for their respective age group. Camaraderie and sporting spirit was prominent throughout.
The day concluded with the prize giving ceremony. A new initiative introduced this year was to identify players who exhibited an exemplary spirit of sportsmanship throughout the tournament, while the ‘Side Line Squad Challenge’ for outstanding support among team members went to East London. Each player also received a memento for her participation.
