BAPS Charities organised a national netball tournament for children, the Premvati Cup, on Saturday 13 July 2019 at Copthall School, London (for participants from London and the southern regions of the UK) and at Crown Hills Community College in Leicester (for northern regions of the UK).
A total of 195 young girls from across the UK participated in the tournaments which began with a short opening ceremony where speakers reinforced messages teamwork and unity, and explained the format and rules of the competition.
The children were organised into three age groups – 6 to 8 years, 9 to 11 years, and 12 to 14 years. Every participant held aloft a colourful flag or banner to celebrate the values of unity, fraternity and togetherness that the tournament propagates each year.
The group matches commenced with vocal support of parents and volunteers. The games progressed to the knockout stages which provided plenty of entertainment and an exhibition of competitive spirit.
The events were thoroughly enjoyed by both players and spectators and organisers welcomed the participation of new teams from towns and cities this year.
The day concluded with a prize-giving ceremony where awards for sportsmanship were especially promoted. It was encouraging to see young children demonstrating teamwork and admiration for fellow players.
