Volunteers from BAPS Charities in Manchester (Ashton-under-Lyne) collected food for the needy and homeless in December 2020 as part of its on-going commitment to serve the local community. The collection was part of a nationwide drive across 12 centres around the UK, with BAPS Charities supporting a number of local charities during this particularly difficult time.
This year’s collective effort did not include clothing due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions. However, over 200 cans of food were deposited at Tameside South & Longdendale Foodbank, a charity working towards stopping hunger in the local area and part of the Trussell Trust.
Manni Dhokia, a lead volunteer for BAPS Charities, shared, “This is a particularly challenging time of year for the vulnerable in Tameside, which has been exacerbated by the pandemic. The work of Tameside South & Longdendale Foodbank is truly heartwarming and we hope our donation can bring some comfort to those in need.”
