Volunteers from BAPS Charities in Leicester collected food for the needy and homeless in December 2020 as part of its on-going commitment to serve the local community. The collection was part of a nationwide drive across 12 centres around the UK, with BAPS Charities supporting a number of local charities during this particularly difficult time.
This year’s collective effort did not include clothing due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions. However, over 40kgs of pasta, soups, biscuits, milk and tinned essentials was deposited at Action Homeless, who “tackle the causes and consequences of homelessness across Leicester and Leicestershire”.
Sanjiv Patel a lead volunteer for BAPS Charities, shared, “Winter is always a particularly challenging time of year for the vulnerable, which has only been made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic. The work of Action Homeless is truly inspiring and we hope our donation can bring some comfort to those in need.”
Tim Adkin, Community Support Manager for Action Homeless, thanked BAPS Charities and said, “This is a wonderful donation and it’s exactly what we need at this time of year. It will keep a lot of families fed well into January.”
