Volunteers from BAPS Charities in Leeds collected food for the needy and homeless in December 2020 as part of its on-going commitment to serve the local community. The collection was part of a nationwide drive across 12 centres around the UK, with BAPS Charities supporting a number of local charities during this particularly difficult time.
This year’s collective effort did not include clothing due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions. However, 312 cans of fruit and vegetables were deposited at Saint George’s Crypt, a charity in Leeds offering “care, compassion and hope to the homeless, the vulnerable and those suffering from addiction”.
Jashan Patel, a lead volunteer for BAPS Charities, shared, “The winter season is always a particularly challenging time of year for the vulnerable in Leeds, and the pandemic has only made it worse. The work of Saint George’s Crypt is truly inspiring and we hope our donation can bring some comfort to those in need.”
