On January 31, 2015, BAPS Charities volunteers from Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania visited the Hisani Orphan Centre Trust to provide much-needed support and to spend time with the children in the orphanage. The Hisani Orphans Centre Trust is a certified home for orhpaned children. It was founded in 2005, and is located in the Mbagala Maji Matitu area. Currently, it is home to 40 orphans (21 boys and 19 girls). Their ages range from 2-18 years. The children attend the government school in the vicinity of the orphanage, where they get free education. The orphanage is their permanent home.
Upon arrival, the volunteers were greeted by Mrs. Hidaya Shukrani, the care taker of the orphanage. The goods to be donated were taken to the courtyard, after which the volunteers met and spent time with the children. After a brief assembly, each of the children were given a gift packet containing biscuits, wafers, crisps and chocolate in addition to study materials while the remaining foodstuffs for the kitchen were handed over to the caretakers by junior volunteers.
This effort to support local community organizations is an ongoing activity of BAPS Charities in Tanzania to provide much-needed resources and supplies to integral charities working in the area.
