BAPS Charities volunteers visited the Salvation Army Matumaini, which is a home and school for poor and disabled/orphaned children. The home was founded in 1933 by British Volunteers working in Tanzania. At present, the school is sustained by foreign aid and support from local citizens. Juliana Setela and Cesilia Mwita run the home, which consists of 180 physically disabled children, whose ages range from 1 to 13. In total, 15 teachers conduct various classes, ranging from Mathematics to English. This education provides a foundation for the children to progress their lives. The school is their permanent home, where all amenities are provided for free.
BAPS Charities donated 10 wheel chairs to the disabled orphans in addition to the following items:
- 200 bottles of drinking water
- 200 bottles of juice
- 200 packs of wafers
- 200 packs of chocolates
- 200 packs of biscuits
- 200 pieces of a variety of candy
- 50 kg sugar
- 50 kg rice
- 20 kg salt
- 50 kg beans
- 40 liters of cooking oil
Volunteers also spent time with the children, handing over individual gift packets to the children, along with water, juice and fruits. Volunteers enjoyed their time interacting with the children in the home and were able to bring some joy to their lives.
