During the month of Ramadan, the volunteers of BAPS Charities organized a food drive for the Al Furqan Islamic Center, which is a home for disadvantaged children. The home was founded in 2011 by Mr. Hamisi Omari, who is currently the care taker of the orphanage. The orphanage is located in the Chanika kwa Dadi area, which is approximately 30 kilometers from Dar es Salaam. 45 children reside in the home, whose age groups range from 3 to 12 years. In addition to housing, the orphanage provides the children with education in a nearby school. The schooling is free for all the orphans, because their poor backgrounds. Supplies were also provided to the associated Islamic charities including the Umra Orphanage, Hairi Orphanage and the Hisani Orphanage, bringing supplies during this special month for over 200 children.
BAPS Charities provided the following supplies to these four charitable institutions:
- 100 kg sugar
- 100 kg rice
- 8 kg salt
- 100 kg beans
- 80 liters of cooking oil
- 200 kg of maize flour
- 200 kg wheat flour
- 200 gift packs for the children
