Every winter, BAPS Charities in South Africa run its annual Winter Warmer drive across all major cities in the country. The aim of the drive is to donate clothes, blankets, hot meals and non-perishable food and household items to underprivileged and impoverished communities in preparation for the winter season.
On Sunday, 29 June 2014, BAPS Charities volunteers from Durban donated 100 blankets, clothing, food and hot meals to the Umgababa township, 30kms south of Durban. About 25 volunteers were assisted by the Red Cross in handing out the items to approximately 150 people from the township.
The residents at the township live in impoverished conditions and are always in dire need of assistance from the public. They showed their appreciation by singing and thanking the volunteers for all that was donated.
