On Saturday 11 May 2019 BAPS Charities hosted a health talk on breast cancer awareness, presented by Dr Ashesh Ranchod (FC Radiology (SA).
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world today and significantly impacts the quality of life of the family and individual whom it affects. Early detection and treatment assists in reducing the morbidity and mortality of the individual affected by the cancer.
Dr Ashesh Ranchod presented to a group of 150 women of all ages. He described exactly what breast cancer is and the risks factors associated with the disease. He also debugged many of the myths present about the causes of breast cancer present within the community. Most importantly he trained the women on breast self examination and the importance of screening mammography to aid early detection of breast cancer. This simple training empowered the women present to take steps towards improving their own health.
The women were then allowed to ask their questions and clear up any confusion present. The event was a great success and the women expressed their gratitude to BAPS Charities and Dr Ashesh Ranchod for organising such an event.
