Flu (or influenza) is caused by viruses that infect the nose, throat, sinuses, upper airways and lungs. These viruses spread easily from person to person when an infected person coughs or sneezes or, quite commonly, through hand-to-hand contact. Symptoms can be treated, but neither a cold nor flu can be cured. The influenza vaccine is the most important way to either avoid influenza altogether, or to reduce its severity.
BAPS Charities South Africa held a flu vaccination drive on Sunday, 6 April 2014 in Johannesburg. Over 100 men, women and children benefited from receiving the flu vaccine in time for the upcoming flu season.
