On Thursday, April 16, 2020, BAPS Charities donated 11,300 pieces of personal protective equipment which included 5,000 surgical masks, 6,000 gloves and 300 face shields to the Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Fremont, CA. With the number of COVID-19 cases expected to rise rapidly in the coming weeks, BAPS Charities took the initiative to help healthcare workers not only protect the health of others but also their own health and safety.
Meeting the increased demand for PPE has become a priority to many hospitals across America. Having witnessed BAPS Charities continued efforts to support this dire need of increased PPE supplies, Kaiser Permanente’s practice leader Carson Hibbard notes, “Everyone is so stressed right now, people are working long days, working weekends and this (the donations) is what brings joy and happiness to us. It is so hard work. Thank you.”
Dr. Eric Cain, Physician-in-Chief, Kaiser Fremont Medical Center remarked, “I am honored to be a part of the community where BAPS Charities has taken initiative to support the efforts of The Permanente Medical Group to protect the community from COVID-19. The BAPS supporters have been generous, thoughtful and caring during this pandemic and in prior disasters. Please extend the appreciation of our Physicians, Nurses, and Staff to BAPS supporters.”
Fremont Mayor Lily Mei was also present with BAPS Charities volunteers and appreciated the efforts of BAPS Charities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In gratitude and support of the local area’s healthcare workers, BAPS Charities will continue to support the local needs of the greater Bay area as relates to the COVID-19 pandemic.
