On Sunday 19 September 2021, the Christchurch Satsang Mandal gathered at Groynes Park in Belfast, Christchurch as part of a community led tree planting campaign.
This event was held in honour of the 100th Birthday celebrations of Guru Pramukh Swami Maharaj. The Christchurch Mandal wanted to commemorate this special occasion by doing something that would live forever. This campaign was an opportunity for participants to benefit our community in tribute to the efforts and sacrifices made by Pramukh Swami Maharaj for the benefit of all.
This event was organised with the assistance of Christchurch City Council and participants from the ages 8 to 65 came together to make this campaign possible. After performing Harikrishna Maharaj’s pujan and arti and tying nadachadi for all participants and council representatives, the participants made their way to the Otaukaikino river bank. In total 333 trees were planted along with native grasses, fencing plants and shrubs.
All participants put in their effort towards the improvement of our shared environment. To note, Aryan Raut ( 14 years old) and Om Bhavesh Patel ( 12 years old ) together planted 100 trees.
In honour of this campaign, Christchurch City Council graciously agreed to install a commemorative plaque in the park. This event was made possible by the Samp, suhradbhav and Ekta of the BAPS Christchurch Mandal and its commitment to the preservation and protection of our local environment.
