The Horn of Africa is experiencing the worst drought in 40 years. For too many, this is the fourth drought period in a row. In some areas, over 90 per cent of water sources have dried up. As crops fail and families lose their livestock – which, for many, is their only source of income – more than four million people are grappling with acute hunger. Moreover, aid groups and authorities predict the next rains in the Horn of Africa will also likely fail, hurting communities.
On 14th October 2022, BAPS Charities, in conjunction with the office of Her Excellency Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, the 2nd Lady to The Republic of Kenya, mobilized resources to dispatch food aid to the drought-stricken residents of Narok County.
BAPS Charities has always been at the forefront during any humanitarian crisis, and the team mobilized food aid to the tune of 12 tons of rice, beans, maize, porridge, and cooking fat. The food aid was distributed to the residents of Narok County, with her Excellency personally being present to distribute the food aid to affected families and individuals.
The food aid will benefit approximately one thousand affected families. Her Excellency appreciated the prompt response and support from BAPS Charities at the flagging-off ceremony.
BAPS Charities will continue to work with the Office of the 2nd Lady to support the efforts to help fellow Kenyans overcome this calamity.
