Under its’ Education Pillar, BAPS Charities built an entire Classroom block to support Dada’s Community and Education Centre in Kawangware, Dagoretti. Dada’s Centre is supported by Mr. & Mrs. Nitin Harania. It currently has 63 orphans living permanently at the centre. They have a nursery and a full primary school for 330 students.
BAPS Charities has formerly supported Dadas by donating textbooks, food supplies, feminine hygiene products and clothes. After the previous visits by the Charities team to the Centre, they identified the following issues with the facilities:
- Poor classroom facilities (bad ventilation, muddy floors, poor roofing, etc.)
- Shortage of classrooms
- Lacking sanitation facilities
- No staff rooms
To greatly improve the situation, BAPS Charities built a 3-storey building comprising of 10 classrooms, a staff room, toilets on every floor and a kitchenette to serve food. The opening of the new facility was conducted on Thursday the 21st of February 2019 in the presence of BAPS Nairobi Chairman, Mr. Satish Patel, BAPS Charities committee member Mr. Sameet Patel as well as Dada’s Centre founder, Mr. Nitin Harania.
The ceremony commenced with prayers conducted by the students and the Charities team, followed by introductions of all 12 teachers, 3 helpers and 3 volunteers. Thereafter there was entertainment (singing, reciting poems and dancing) provided by the students. The ceremony was concluded with the hanging of a plaque and serving the students with juice, biscuits, sweets and packets of crisps.
