As COVID-19 continues to affect the Greater Vancouver area healthcare workers remain crucial warriors on the front lines of this pandemic. In recognition of their dedication and strength, BAPS Charities, in partnership with the Gujarati Society of British Columbia (GSBC) and Vedic Hindu Cultural Society, distributed hot vegetarian meals to healthcare workers.
More than 600 nutritious hot vegetarian meals and hundreds of bottled beverages were distributed to the Surrey Memorial Hospital staff in Vancouver, BC on May 29, 2020.
“Due to long working hours and shift work, frontline personnel often find it difficult to access fresh meals during these unprecedented times,” said Shirish Shah, President of BAPS Charities, Canada. “This is the least we can do to support them. At the same time, we would like to appeal to others to also support the front line heroes serving in their local communities in all fields”.
Dr. Jane Adams, President & CEO at Surrey Hospital Foundation, joined BAPS Charities in distributing meals and said, “Thank you to Gujarati Society of BC and to the Vedic Hindu Cultural Society for partnering with BAPS Charities on this event. We are very grateful for BAPS Charities and the partnership that has developed through their annual Walk as well as their participation in our MEALS of THANKS program during the COVID-19 Pandemic. They have also generously helped provide some PPE equipment for the staff. We salute the volunteers who work with BAPS Charities to make our communities better.”
Just as BAPS Charities is honoured to serve the heroes of Vancouver, volunteers across Canada and throughout the world are continuing to assess situations and provide support to help their local communities. For more information please visit http://www.bapscharities.org/covid19-canada.
