With hundreds of thousands of COVID-19 cases in New York City, it is the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States. As a result, health care workers in New York City are working around the clock to treat the affected. To uplift all of the hard-working healthcare professionals, children of BAPS Charities volunteers created handmade thank you cards. Dr. Gagan Gulati, Director of Emergency Medicine, Flushing Hospital Medical Center, Queens, NY, was emotionally moved by the thank you cards and said, “The whole month, BAPS Charities has been supporting us in so many ways, we really thank you for the thoughtfulness.”
The lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) is one of the top concerns for healthcare facilities combating COVID-19, especially in heavily impacted New York City. To aid healthcare facilities, BAPS Charities donated more than 200 handmade cloth head caps to the following healthcare facilities in New York City.
- Flushing Hospital Medical Center, Queens, NY
- New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, Queens, NY
- Interfaith Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY
- Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY
- Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY
- Kings County Hospital Center, Brooklyn, NY
Dr. Ruby Risal, Interfaith Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY, was overjoyed by the donation and said, “Wow, beautiful caps.” Nicole Flavors, Administrator, Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY, greatly appreciated the donation and said, “On behalf of Brookdale, I’d like to thank BAPS Charities for its generosity. Our Ambulatory Department needed head caps and we appreciate the timely donation.”
BAPS Charities is thankful for its volunteers’ efforts to help keep healthcare professionals positive and safe. Similarly, BAPS Charities volunteers in locations across the United States and the world are assessing the situation in their local communities to effectively provide support.
