A shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the lack of space to care for patients are among the top concerns for healthcare facilities combating the COVID-19 pandemic. Consequently, many healthcare professionals have been utilizing creative methods to continue safely treating patients. In aid of healthcare professionals, BAPS Charities donated more than 200 handcrafted cloth facemasks to healthcare facilities in New York and New Jersey. When cloth facemasks are worn on top of healthcare grade respiratory facemasks, the useful life of this PPE can be extended. Paulomi Mehta, BAPS Charities volunteer, coordinated this initiative among elderly women and shared, “We wanted to contribute to the relief efforts somehow, so we sat down with our sewing machines and made facemasks.”
Hackensack Meridian Health JFK Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey pleaded to the public-at-large for video baby monitors to expand its capacity to care for COVID-19 patients. BAPS Charities immediately acted and donated 40 video baby monitors. Srikanth Jaikumar, Vice President, Ambulatory Services and Program Development, accepted the donation on behalf of JFK Medical center and informed BAPS Charities, “Your donation will go a long way to improve the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).”
