Although countless Americans continue to practice social distancing to decrease the spread of COVID-19, the scarcity of personal protective equipment (PPE) continues to be a major hurdle in various parts of the US. This was true in Jackson, Mississippi, where city Councilman De’Keither Stamps reached out to BAPS Charities for support in procuring PPE. On May 12, 2020, BAPS Charities donated 5,000 face masks and 4 boxes of hand sanitizers to the senior citizen community at the Grove Park Community Center in Jackson, MS.
BAPS Charities volunteers were joined by local community members in delivering the PPE. As Councilman Stamps accepted the donation on behalf of the Grove Park Community Center, he remarked, “ This organization (BAPS Charities) and its members are a valued part of Ward 4. We needed more personal protective equipment on the ground and I am glad they filled the need.”
Beyond the recent donation, BAPS Charities has organized and implemented several online awareness campaigns for the community on how to stay healthy and safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. BAPS Charities volunteers throughout the world are assessing situations and providing support to help local communities. More details on www.bapscharities.org/covid-19/
