The outbreak of COVID-19 has created a global health crisis that has profoundly impacted the way we live our everyday lives. BAPS Charities continues to empower the community by supporting local organizations in need.
BAPS Charities Canada recently presented the Victoria General Hospital Foundation in Winnipeg, the William Osler Health System in Toronto, and the Scarborough Health Network Foundation in Scarborough with donations totalling $13,500. The donations will be used to fund several ongoing initiatives to help combat COVID-19. These donations are in addition to the thousands of PPE items and care packages provided by BAPS Charities Canada to support front-line workers at hospitals across the country.
The William Osler Health System is one of the largest community health care systems in the country, serving a diverse and growing population. The Health System comprises three integrated hospitals: Brampton Civic Hospital, Etobicoke General Hospital, and the Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness. Ken Mayhew, President and CEO of the William Osler Health System Foundation appreciated the ongoing support of BAPS Charities saying, “Thank you again for your kindness and generosity. Please give my sincere thanks to the team.”
The Victoria General Hospital has been serving the Winnipeg community for more than 100 years as a centre of excellence for mental health and a leader in the care of older adults. Ron Hogue, Director of Development at Victoria General Hospital Foundation said, “I wanted to thank BAPS Charities Canada again for your commitment to our Foundation and to our Miracle Garden in particular. Your continued support, as well as your donation of N95 masks at the beginning of the pandemic, is very much appreciated! Thank you again for your involvement in supporting our community through our partnership.”
The Scarborough Health Network (SHN) consists of three hospitals and eight satellite sites which serve thousands of people annually. “BAPS Canada has once again raised the bar on their commitment to the Scarborough community with a financial contribution of $2,500, towards a $10,000 commitment to SHN.,” said Ryan Baillie, Vice President of Community Development at SHN. “Thank you for your thoughtful and compassionate service, we are humbled by your outstanding generosity. We know we will be successful because we have community-minded organizations like BAPS Charities Canada on our side.”
Each year, BAPS Charities hosts 11 Walkathons across Canada with more than 2,000 participants. These hospitals were to be the beneficiaries of the efforts of the 2020 Walkathons, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these Walkathons were cancelled. Despite these circumstances, BAPS Charities Canada wished to support these hospitals.
“We are grateful for the continuous and selfless efforts of all front-line workers during these challenging times,” said Yogesh Patel, President of BAPS Charities Canada. “Our volunteers across Canada are continuing to evaluate the situation to effectively provide support.”
BAPS Charities is committed to serving society and communities in diverse fields such as medical services, environmental services, community services, educational services, and humanitarian services.
