As an ongoing part of youth development, BAPS Charities organized Youth Sports Day for girls aged 8-16 in Toronto on Saturday, March 16, 2019. Over 30 girls from various communities across the greater Toronto area joined together for a day of sports, physical activity and healthy competition.
After a welcome and registration, Ms. Tanvi Patel, BAPS Charities Youth Activities Lead, led an engaging presentation on the value of teamwork, unity, and community spirit; not only on the playing field, but for success in school, academics, and all aspects of daily life. The participants were grouped into teams and took part in European handball, tug-of-war, obstacle course sports, and other team building activities. The activities continued after a networking lunch which allowed the participants to make new friends. Awards were presented to participants expressing exceptional team spirit and good sportsmanship.
The sports day ended with a final presentation on how unity and fairness can be expressed daily through one’s thoughts, words, and most importantly, actions to bring happiness to all those we come into contact with.
“I had a really great time at the event, and I got to learn a lot about the importance of teamwork and unity in my daily life,” said Meera Mehta, a teen participant from Brampton, Ontario. “Overall, it was well organized and I got to meet a lot of new people. I’m very excited to attend again next year!”
