On Saturday 25 April 2015, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck an area of central Nepal, while a 6.7-magnitude tremor was felt less than 50 miles from the capital, Kathmandu, causing widespread devastation. Strong aftershocks continued to hit the region on Sunday 26 April.
Reports indicate the loss of life to be over 5,000, with thousands of others injured and many more homeless and affected.
