BAPS Charities Supports Penrith Community Kitchen with $10,000 Donation

On July 6, 2024, BAPS Charities strengthened community ties by making a significant donation to Penrith Community Kitchen, a vital resource dedicated to supporting the most vulnerable in our community. BAPS Charities volunteers had the honour of meeting with Penrith Community Kitchen’s CEO Gai Hawthorn and President Jeremy Bentvelzen to present the donation, which will help sustain and expand the kitchen’s critical services.

Founded in 1994, Penrith Community Kitchen serves as a beacon of hope, offering meals and support from Monday to Friday each week. Each day between 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM, they provide meals as well as bread, butter, condiments, fresh fruit, soup, water, and sweets. Their efforts extend beyond daily meal services; every winter, they run a clothing appeal, collecting warm clothing to distribute throughout the community. Additionally, their “Food for Local Kids” program collaborates with local schools and the PCYC Penrith to provide breakfast, lunch, snacks, and emergency food aid to children in need.

During the visit, Jeremy and Gai provided a tour of the facilities and shared insights into the operational needs of the kitchen, which relies heavily on a dedicated volunteer workforce. The passion and commitment of the Penrith Community Kitchen team was evident, as was their gratitude when BAPS Charities Director Yogi Savania announced the $10,000 donation. This contribution is possible due to fundraising efforts, such as the BAPS Charities Walkathon and the annual Gala Dinner in Sydney. It demonstrates a continuation of BAPS Charities’ commitment to fostering strong, supportive communities.

BAPS Charities wishes to express profound thanks to all supporters and volunteers whose generosity makes it possible to have a lasting impact on lives across Sydney. We are inspired by organizations like Penrith Community Kitchen, and we are committed to ongoing partnerships that strengthen our collective ability to serve those in need.
