From August 13-15, 2024, 112 seniors aged 65-89 from across Ontario participated in the BAPS Charities Seniors Trip to Akshardham, a landmark of art, architecture and culture in Robbinsville, New Jersey. This special event brought together seniors from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and other parts of Ontario for a meaningful tour.
Upon their arrival in Robbinsville, the group received a warm welcome from local seniors. The trip was filled with sightseeing and thoughtful exchanges, as participants shared their experiences on staying active in local communities and mentoring younger generations.
The entire trip was meticulously planned by senior volunteers from BAPS Charities, who managed every detail—transportation, accommodations, and meals—ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all involved.
“Organizing this trip was a true labour of love. Our senior volunteers brought such energy and dedication to make sure everything went smoothly. Seeing the joy on the participants’ faces made it all worthwhile,” shared Rajni Kotecha, BAPS Charities Seniors Activities Coordinator.
Navin Patel, one of the participants, reflected on the experience: “The opportunity to connect with others, share life stories, and explore new places brought me so much joy and a deep sense of belonging.”
On their way back to Canada, the group stopped in Pennsylvania to visit a cultural site, adding yet another unforgettable moment to the trip. It was a chance for further bonding and the creation of lasting memories.
Yogesh Patel, President of BAPS Charities, spoke about the broader mission of the organization: “Whether we are organizing trips for seniors, hosting annual walkathons, or leading blood donation drives across Canada, everything we do is guided by our belief that ‘In the Joy of Others, Lies Our Own.’”
