In The Joy of Others: Walk-Run 2024 in Los Angeles, CA

In 2019, only 36% of 12th-grade students in the U.S. performed at or above the proficient level in mathematics, indicating a significant achievement gap in STEM subjects compared to international peers. Additionally, an estimated 2 billion metric tons of municipal solid waste is generated globally each year, with only about 13.5% recycled. We must unite to improve STEM education outcomes for students nationwide and encourage the development of a circular economy where waste reduction is a priority.

To support solutions to this challenge, BAPS Charities hosted its “In the Joy of Others Walk/Run” in the Los Angeles area on Sunday, July 21, 2024. The event benefited the TGR Learning Lab (a Tiger Woods Charity), Saahas for Cause, and BAPS Charities. BAPS Charities donated $10,000 to the TGR Learning Lab to provide more students with unique learning experiences in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) within a safe and inspiring environment. BAPS Charities also donated $5,000 to Saahas for Cause to further their mission of educating, empowering, and enabling the South Asian immigrant community to improve their quality of life.

“Thank you so much for having Saahas as a beneficiary and giving us this privilege. You have created a culture where South Asian communities can have a voice, come together, and share their experiences. We can only be here because of your support,” shared Aakriti Kundra, board member of Saahas for Cause.

The event brought together over 250 community members at Conejo Creek North Park in Thousand Oaks, CA. BAPS Charities is grateful to California State Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel for sending a special Certificate of Recognition to honor the event.

The event promoted healthier lifestyles and highlighted the profound impact of collective efforts in addressing local needs and challenges.
