On June 8, 2024, BAPS Charities hosted its annual “In the Joy of Others: Walk-Run” in Dallas, TX, to support Irving Cares and Metrocare. This event brought together community members to raise awareness and support for local services provided by these organizations.
This year, over 1200 community members, including Texas State Representative District 66, Matt Shaheen, and City of Irving Mayor Rick Stopfer, joined the effort to support Irving Cares in their mission to lift families out of poverty to be self-sufficient and stable, along with Metrocare in their mission to bring accessible, high-quality mental health care and developmental disability services to our most vulnerable neighbors. The event showcased a broad spectrum of participation, from youth to seniors, united for a common cause.
Kyle Taylor, CEO of Irving Cares, reflected on the event’s significance, saying, “Irving Cares cannot do what we do without the support from organizations like BAPS Charities. Our goal is to lift people out of poverty and provide them with a strong foundation to stand on. On behalf of my board, my volunteers, and the 20,000 people we’ll see this year, Thank you to BAPS Charities for your commitment to the community.”
Speaking on the occasion, Tameka Cass, Chief Philanthropy and Diversity Officer from Metrocare, said, “On behalf of Metrocare services, our President and CEO, my 1200 healthcare professionals and colleagues, and the 50,000 individuals we see annually, thank you so much to BAPS Charities for this honor, recognition, and beautiful event. Thank you for your support and contribution to this important work. Metrocare is the largest provider of mental health and disability services in Dallas County. I want to tell all sponsors here that when you give to charities like BAPS Charities, you’re helping so many in the community in ways that are unimaginable.”
The event not only provided an opportunity for participants to engage in living a healthier lifestyle but also served as a reminder of the profound impact collective efforts can have in addressing local needs and challenges.
