In the face of a prevailing cost of living crisis impacting many Australians, the stark reality is that 1 in 4 Australians experiences severe food insecurity. Recognising the urgency of this issue, BAPS Charities took a proactive step toward making a tangible difference.
On December 23, 2023, BAPS Charities raised funds to assemble and donate over 120 food boxes (1.5 tonnes of food essentials) to the Wiradjuri Condobolin Community in regional NSW. This initiative was a heartfelt response to the pressing need for support within communities facing economic challenges.
The carefully curated food boxes were filled with essential items, including staples such as rice, flour, sugar, pasta, spaghetti, weet-bix, and nutritious options like tomato tins, beans mix, sweetcorn, garden peas, and more. The boxes also contained cooking essentials like vegetable oil, salt, pepper, and herbs, along with a milk supply. The contents were specifically chosen to provide sustenance for an entire week for a family of four.
Given the timing—just before Christmas, when financial constraints may be heightened for many—the Wiradjuri Condobolin Community received these food boxes with profound gratitude. Nicole Smith, the Manager at Wiradjuri Condobolin Corporation, expressed her deep appreciation for the donation. She emphasized that the food boxes would go a long way in supporting the Wiradjuri community during a challenging period, especially considering that such donations are not frequently received in their region.
This successful food drive exemplifies the impact of collective efforts on supporting communities in need. BAPS Charities remains committed to making meaningful contributions and looks forward to continuing its efforts to address pressing social issues. We thank everyone who contributed to the success of this initiative, and we extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Wiradjuri Condobolin Community for welcoming us into their lives. Together, we can make a positive impact and create a brighter future for all.
