COVID-19 has made 2021 a challenging year in many aspects for all, the pandemic has negatively impacted not just the health aspect but also the economy and the financial strength of many in Long Island, NY. For some, the loss of income has led to food insecurity and the thought of getting hold of essential items became impossible.
In order to help provide nourishing food to those struggling families and individuals, BAPS Charities has decided to dedicate its annual food drives to combat food insecurity.
BAPS Charities organized a Food Drive in Long Island, NY from November 1 to December 5. The collection was 435 pounds of food which is equivalent to 320 meals and donated to Long Island Cares Inc.

Long Island Cares organization is a mission to end hunger in Long Island. Founded in 1980 by singer-songwriter and activist, Harry Chapin, our organization is dedicated to serving Long Island’s hungry and food insecure populations. Long Island Cares is one of almost 200 food banks across America that provides food to people impacted by hunger and food insecurity. When founded, Long Island Cares served a mere handful of agencies in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, but today, it distributes more than ten million pounds of food and supplies annually to nearly 400 member agencies in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Their goal is to improve food security for families and help them achieve self-sufficiency.
Donations were collected and dropped off while observing appropriate masking and social distance guidelines to protect the health of everyone involved. BAPS Charities thanks all of the volunteers and donors of diverse ages and backgrounds who came together to help the community.
