Volunteers from BAPS Charities in north-west London collected food for the needy and homeless in December 2020 as part of its on-going commitment to serve the local community. The collection was part of a nationwide drive across 12 centres around the UK, with BAPS Charities supporting a number of local charities during this particularly difficult time.
This year’s collective effort did not include clothing due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions. However, 600 cans and 59kg of food provisions were deposited at Brent Foodbank, which is part of a nationwide network of foodbanks supported by the Russell Trust, and also at Sufra NW London, a local charity that provides a “life-line for people in crisis – including families living in extreme poverty and people who are vulnerable, homeless and socially isolated”.
Kesh Morjaria, a lead volunteer for BAPS Charities, shared, “What a sad and incredibly tough year this has been with Covid-19, multiple lockdowns, loss of jobs and other challenges. We appreciate the noble work of all the organisations across the country in supporting some of the most vulnerable in our society. We hope that the food can provide some comfort to those who need it the most.”
Rajesh Makwana, Director at Sufra NW London, emphasised that the donation will help the charity to provide urgent support to those in need. Michelle Lawrence from Brent Foodbank expressed her gratitude for the “generous donation of tinned food and other items which will help those in need”.
